Furious Joel Embiid rushes referee as 76ers star ejected against Spurs

A wild scene unfolded during a game between the Philadelphia 76ers and the San Antonio Spurs on Monday night, featuring NBA stars Joel Embiid and Victor Wembanyama.

Embiid was ejected with 2:59 left in the second quarter after arguing an offensive foul. He crossed Wembanyama, who was positioned in the middle of the lane. The NBA MVP stood up and immediately argued with referee Jenna Schroeder.

The seven-time All-Star was furious after being ejected from the game for the second time in his career. He had to be stopped by teammate Kyle Lowry, head coach Nick Nurse and several assistant coaches.

Embiid has had a difficult year.

Monday night’s game against the Spurs was only the eighth game he appeared in this season. He dealt with soreness in his left knee, a three-game suspension for an altercation with a reporter and a fractured sinus.

It was the second expulsion of the night, although the first was later annulled.

Schroeder also ejected 76ers big man Andre Drummond for a foul on Wembanyama. However, after the video was replayed, officials overturned the expulsion.

The referees hit Wembanyama with a technical foul for falling, but the referees overturned the technical foul after 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey already made a technical free throw. The point was also overturned.

Philadelphia defeated San Antonio 111-106.
