- It is said that Apple is using a new technology to reject the fold in its folding iPhone
- Now, Samsung wants to use the same feature for its own devices
- This prepares the stage for an important folding in 2026 in 2026
For a long time we have heard rumors that Apple’s next folding iPhone will come with a “without fold” screen, something that none of the best folding phones has achieved. To not be left behind, now it seems that Samsung will go for the same result in the future Galaxy Z Fold 8 device, increasing competition between the two smart phones giants.
This information comes from the Apple-Chi Kuo analyst, who has a solid reputation for its past leaks. In a publication about X, Kuo said that Samsung will adopt a key technology that Apple will use to eliminate visible fold on its folding iPhone.
Specifically, Kuo believes that Apple will wear laser metal screen on its folding phone. Earlier this week, Kuo wrote that this feature will help “distribute and control flexion stress”, if not addressed, this stress can lead to “material fatigue and permanent deformation”, causing folds on the phone screen.
Now, it seems that Samsung wants to enter the event, with Kuo informing that the company will also use these laser metal plates on its next folding phone. The current Samsung Galaxy Z fold 7, in contrast, does not use these plates, and that results in the visible sewing type that both Apple and Samsung now want to avoid.
Folding confrontation
Apple is known for its perfectionist trends, and its goal is always to be the best instead of being the first to market. That position explains why he has not yet launched a folding phone, while their rivals have been doing them for years, and the visible fold in these products is exactly the type of commitment that Apple would not have willing to do.
If you are able to eliminate that fault with this new technology, Apple will go to the opportunity to do so. And with Apple adopting this potentially superior feature, it is clear that Samsung does not want to be left behind. As Kuo predicted previously, the use of this Apple technology could raise the bar among other folding phone manufacturers, and also increase prices.
Apple’s folding iPhone must enter mass production in the second half of 2026, just at the same time as the Samsung device is also included to enter production. That means we could see an epic folding confrontation next year, with two main players that launch devices without fold that take the field to new heights. If you are on the market for a folding phone, you will want to mark your calendar.
