Haripur:
In a disturbing incident in Alto Khanpur, according to the reports, a cow was mutilated and killed by a landowner after wandering through the agricultural fields.
According to a complaint filed at the Khanpur police station, Mehmoodur Rehman, resident of the Upper Khanpur, claimed that he had started a small cattle business with Muhammad Naeem in the village of Dhaniya Khanpur, where they raised and sold cows and calves.
On July 13, his cow supposedly moved away towards a current, possibly in search of water, and entered a field owned by Chaudhry Qayyum.
The plaintiff said that Qayyum put dogs in the cow and attacked him with stones and sticks, breaking his leg and causing serious injuries. Despite the condition of the cow, no help was provided and, according to the reports, he died after suffering all day under heat and the sun.
An eyewitness was also present during the incident. Mehmood declared that the cow had recently given birth, leaving the calf without milk.
In addition, he said that despite approaching the defendant together with the witness of the compensation of the demand, Qayyum refused to participate in any discussion.
According to Mehmood, the cow was valued at more than RS300,000 and was a source of milk income. He cited the incident as a punishable crime under Section 429 of the Pakistan Criminal Code and the Law on Cruelty Prevention towards Animals, 1890, and urged the authorities to take legal actions and compensate for their loss.
Police have acknowledged receiving the complaint, but declared that formal measures have not yet been taken.
The incident has caused concern among residents about cruel cruelty towards animals.
In response, Chaudhry Qayyum denied the accusations, stating that the cow fell from a 12 -foot height due to the fear of dogs and broke his legs. He said that a butcher was called to kill the injured animal and described cruelty claims as false accusations.
