The former LSU gymnast, Livvy Dunne, is not yet letting the New York Times out of the controversial story of 2022 about her that used a headline that included the phrase “Sex Sells”.

The November 2022 article, entitled “New Endosy for University Athletes, resurfaces an old concern: sex sells,” he described Dunne as “a small blonde with a bright smile and the toned physical of a gymnast.” The article continued arguing that the name, the name of the image and the image in female university sports “rewards the traditional female convenience on athletic excellence.”

Dunne spoke against the newspaper in an interview about “What is your story?” podcast. He recalled that the newspaper employees allegedly told him to use the outfit that ended up putting the infamous headline.

“They came to our gymnastics facilities in LSU, they took photos.

“Okay, well, you just got into the installation and you took photos in our outfit broadcast by the team and exploded on a screen … So I thought, ‘that’s fine, well, this is crazy.’ And obviously there was a lot of reaction to the New York Times for that.”

Dunne then reported how he made fun of the New York Times on social networks for the design decision, and ended up receiving a modeling offer from Illustrated Sports as a result.

“I decided that I was going to put the same image that they published and subtitled ‘Sex Sells’ in my Instagram story and write ‘in the New York Times, is it too much?’ Because, come on, you know what you are doing.

“And then people loved it. They were very good because no, it’s not too much. You’re in your outfit broadcast by the team, which is a leotard for gymnasts. There were many positive comments of that. So, Sports Illustrated approached my agent. I was so excited about that. That was always a dream of mine. There are some legends and some incredible athletes who have been in Sports Illustrated.”

Dunne has previously spoken against the newspaper for the article.

During an appearance in the “full shipping podcast” in the summer of 2023, he called the piece “BS”, and affirms that the journalist asked him “strange” and “strange” questions.

“It was complete Bs. I mean, they called me on the phone in November and they told me that they were going to write about my achievements and things and I said: ‘Ok, sure. That’s incredible. The New York Times. That’s huge,” he said.

“The interviewer called me and was asking me very strange questions. He was written quite rare,” he explained. “He was like, ‘So how does it feel to be a small small blonde gymnast and what is so good with void’?
