Islamabad:
The district administration opened the spills of the Rawal dam on Sunday after the continuous rains raised the water level of the tank to 1,748 feet.
According to a spokesman for the ICT administration, this was only four feet below the maximum storage capacity of the 1,752 feet dam, which caused the need to release water to avoid overflow risks.
The authorities confirmed that after downloading water for approximately six and a half hours, the water level in the dam fell to 1,746 feet.
The spills closed when the situation stabilized.
The decision to open the spills was taken in coordination with several departments, including the administration of the District, Rescue 1122 and the WASA.
These equipment were deployed in key locations, including bridges, currents and vulnerable points downstream, to manage the flow of released water and guarantee public safety. Nilore AC monitored the entire water release process, supervising operations in the dam and supervising soil safety measures.
Magistrates, rescue 1122 teams, ambulances and staff of the Council of the Union remained parked on different bridges and near the banks of the streams throughout the water discharge period.
