Islamabad:

A confrontation between the merchants and the government intensified on Monday when the authorities arrested several merchants who protested against taxes on the border of Pakistan-China, said the reports of the media of Gilgit-Baltistan.

The merchants, who are part of the Pak-China Commerce Action Committee, had announced the closure of the dry port of the Silk Route and blocked the Karakoram road in the districts of Hunza and Nagar. The protest, which began on Monday morning, had stranded hundreds of travelers, including tourists, in the area.
