IHC to resume Peca’s audience on September 18

Islamabad:

The Superior Court of Islamabad (IHC) has scheduled a hearing on the requests that challenge the controversial Law of Electronic Crime Prevention (PECA) 2025.

Judge Raja Inaam Ameen Minhas will take the requests on September 18.

Previously, Judge Minhas had held a hearing on July 7, during which the arguments had begun, but the court did not establish the next hearing date at that time, which has now been announced.

The requests have been presented by the PFUJ, the television presenters and the Association of Journalists of the Superior Court of Islamabad. At the previous hearing, Dr. Yasir Aman, Pfuj’s lawyer, presented arguments and is expected to continue them at the next hearing as well.

The National Assembly on January 23 of this year modified the law of cyber crimes of the country, Peca, 2016, granting the government extended powers to regulate and control social media platforms in the midst of the protest of correct journalists and activists.

Several groups and individuals then presented requests against the law amended in different courts of the country, including the IHC.
