As of August 25, 2025, all Goo.gl links will stop working, returning a 404 error. This occurs a year after interstitial warning pages began to appear for some Goo.gl links, stating that they would stop working soon.
Google had already closed URL Goo.gl in 2019 due to changes in the way in which people find online content, with 99% of Goo.GL links that do not inform activity in June 2024.

URL shorters have generally become less relevant, however, developers could still see some impact of their deprecation. For example, Goo.GL links embedded in 302 redirections or social metadata may not work properly.
Interestingly, Google Apps links such as Maps will continue to function, even after closing.
Although users were able to omit the interstitial page by adding the consultation parameter “SI = 1” to the existing Goo.gl links, imminent deprecation means that users and developers now must transition from their links to another URL acorter or risk interruptions.
The Google URL shorter lived for nine years relatively short, from 2009 to 2018. When the company first confirmed that anonymous and new users could no longer create new Goo.GL links as of April 13, 2018, it told users in the direction of Bit.ly and Ow.ly ..
Although technological companies are often scheduled to promulgate quite important changes with an insufficient warning, GOO users have had about seven years to prepare for change, and with less than 1% of the GOO link reports. GOO .gl a year ago, it is likely that the impacts are minimal.
