PM Shehbaz approves the digital ecosystem for FBR reforms

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved the development of a digital ecosystem within the Federal Income Board (FBR), as part of the current reform efforts of the Government, Radio Pakistan reported.

By chairing a meeting in Islamabad on Saturday to review the progress in FBR reforms, the prime minister ordered that the experts recognized worldwide are committed to design and implement the new digital system.

He instructed that all data, from the importation and production of raw materials to the manufacture of products and purchases of consumers, are integrated into a single centralized system to allow end -to -end monitoring in real time.

The prime minister emphasized that the system should be done so effective that the entire value chain can be digitally monitored. He added that centralized data should be used to inform strategic economic decision making.

In addition, he emphasized that the key to reducing fiscal burden on the common citizen lies in expanding the tax base and eliminating the informal economy.

Previously, Prime Minister Shehbaz directed the immediate implementation of current reforms within the FBR, underlining the importance of digitalization and automation to review Pakistan’s fiscal system.

Presiding over a high -level review meeting, the prime minister highlighted the need to rectify what he described as “70 years of poor management” in the country’s tax framework. He promised the maximum facilitation for honest taxpayers and businesses, but promised a strict legal action against those involved in tax evasion, without concessions.
