Over 100 children killed in Parachinar amid roadblocks

More than 100 children have tragically died in Parachinar due to non-availability of medical facilities caused by road blockades that have persisted for two and a half months.

The current crisis has sparked protests as citizens demand urgent measures to reopen access routes. For the sixth day, they protest against the road blockade.

Agha Muzamil, president of Upper Kurram Tehsil, said, “Residents are unable to access basic needs like healthcare and food due to road closures. More than 100 children have succumbed to lack of healthcare.”

In response, the deputy commissioner of Kurram announced that a Grand Jirga had arrived in the district to begin peace talks aimed at resolving the long-standing tribal conflict. The government hopes that these negotiations will lead to stability and the reopening of roads.

Solidarity rallies have also been held in front of Karachi’s Numaish Chowrangi and Lahore Press Club, organized by Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen to highlight the plight of Parachinar residents.

Information Advisor to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Saif said that a special police force has been approved to secure the Parachinar highway.

He emphasized that the government’s goal is to achieve a sustainable and permanent resolution to the centuries-old tribal dispute that has caused significant unrest in the region.

The ongoing tribal conflict in Parachinar has claimed over 100 lives and paralyzed the district by blocking all major and minor routes for the last two and a half months. The situation remains tense, with residents and authorities grappling with the consequences of the prolonged blockade.
