The Nascar Xfinity Austin Hill and Aric Almirola series drivers got into an unpleasant shipwreck during Pennzoil 250 in Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Saturday afternoon.

Hill and Almirola were coming with 10 laps to go in the race. Almirola got into the back of the hill and sent it sliding the track. Almirola tried to surround him, but Hill went down and sent Almirola turning to the wall.

Almirola hit the wall hard while Hill turned in the grass before returning to the track and making contact with the wall too. Hill was beaten with a five laps penalty due to the controversial blow. He told his team on the radio that he had not been intentional.

Almirola did not agree.

“It was definitely intentional,” Almirola told the CW after being released from the center of attention of the painting, through Nascar.com. “I blocked me three times. I finally released it in (turn) 3. I had damage to the nose, so it was very slow in the corners. It was time to go. I mean, let’s go to go, and the leaders are beginning to wear a gap, so it’s time to leave.”

Almirola was not injured, but said the accident reminded him of a 2017 accident in which he had broken his back.

“That was violent, to be totally honest,” he added. “That is one of the most difficult successes I have taken in my Nascar career. The impact was very similar when I broke my back. I would be very interested in seeing the data of the black box of that crash, but it was vicious, and that is not what should not be done.”

Hill told his team that he couldn’t hold on to the car when he was letting go.

The owner of the Richard Childress team defended Hill and does not believe that he should be suspended by him.

“(Nascar) did nothing to (Austin Cindric). He opened (Ty Dillon) and admitted it, led him in the right back and destroyed him in a dimension,” said Childress, through motor racing wire. “It’s who you are. We are a blue neck team. They give us problems all the time.”

Connor Zilisch collected the victory.
