Karachi:
Pakistan will launch a remote sensing satellite on July 31, 2025 of the Xicheng Satellite launch Center in China (XSLC), announced the spokesman for the Space and Superior Atmosphere Research Commission (Supparco) of Pakistan (Supparco) on Sunday.
This launch marks a significant milestone in the Pakistan space program, improving its Earth’s observation capabilities, the spokesman added. The satellite will support a wide range of national applications, including precision agriculture to increase crop yields.
It will also monitor the development of infrastructure and urban expansion and allow regional planning. It will also strengthen disaster management efforts by providing early warnings for flooding, landslides and earthquakes, while monitoring the merger of glaciers and deforestation.
The satellite will help map transport networks and identify Geohazards, thus supporting national development initiatives such as the Chinese-Pakistan economic corridor project (CPEC).
Its data collection capabilities in various environmental conditions make it a vital asset for environmental monitoring and resource management.
This launch, together with the integration of existing remote sensing satellites, PRSS-1 (launched in July 2018) and EO-1 (launched in January 2025), will even more strengthen Pakistan’s spatial infrastructure.
The initiative is aligned with the National Space Policy and Vision 2047, with the aim of positioning the country at the forefront of space technology and innovation, said the spokesman.
