LHC leaves the order of firs against Suleman Shehbaz

The President of the Justice, Aalia Neelum, of the Superior Court of Lahore (LHC) has reserved the order of a district court that directs the registration of a first information report (FIR) against the son of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Suleman Shehbaz, in a case of dishonado check.

The Superior Court argued that the lower court could not properly examine the facts of the matter.

Suleman Shehbaz had challenged the order of July 10 issued by the district judge, who ordered the police to register a FIR against him for charges of issuing a bounced check.

During the LHC procedure, Suleman’s lawyer said that the District Court’s decision was not only contrary to the law, but also approved without an adequate review of the de facto background.

The defendant’s lawyer claimed that Suleman’s company had bought 17 laptops and issued a check for 600,000 rupees in payment, which was later dishonored.

However, Suleman’s lawyer replied that laptops were never delivered to the company’s office. In addition, he argued that the checks in question were stolen by company employees and unfairly delivered to the respondent. A FIR had already been registered against those people, he added.

“The company has no connection with these checks,” said the lawyer.

The president of the Supreme Court also questioned the defendant’s legal team for not specifying the date of the alleged purchase of the laptop. He pointed out that no purchase receipt did not have any official stamp.

After listening to arguments from both parties, the president of the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the petitioner and annulled the order of the District Court.
