Islamabad:
The Department of Meteorology of Pakistan (PMD) predicted on Thursday the widespread rain wind and sun loungers in different parts of the country on Friday, with a warning of sudden flooding in vulnerable districts.
The PMD predicted rain in Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP), the northeast of Baluchistan, Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and Kashmir, while 40% of the possibilities of rain and thunderstorms in Islamabad. He said that a warm and humid climate will prevail in other parts of the country, particularly in Sindh and southern Baluchistan.
The PMD warned that a heavy rain could trigger sudden floods in Nullahs and local streams in parts of KP, including Dir, Swat, Shangla, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Kohat, Karak, Hagu and Tank, as well as Dera Ghazi Khan, South Punjab, Murree, Galliy and Kashmir.
“Citizens are advised to take precautionary measures, since wind storms, rays and heavy downpours can damage vulnerable structures such as Kacha houses, electrical posts, billboards, solar panels and parked vehicles,” he said.
According to the PMD, significant rain was recorded during the last 24 hours. The maximum rain was recorded in Bannu that received 38 millimeters; followed by 35 mm in Layyah; 29 mm in Bahawalnagar; and up to 19 mm in Bahawalpur.
Despite the generalized rains, high temperatures were also recorded in several areas. Nokkundi was the most popular place in the country with mercury flying to 45c, followed by Dalbandin to 44c, Panjgur at 43c and Sibi at 42c.
The authorities have urged citizens, particularly in flood -prone areas, to remain attentive and avoid unnecessary trips during heavy rains. Emergency services and local administrations have been put on alert to deal with any unpleasant situation.
