Rawalpindi:
In the First Convention of the Day of the Foundation of the Awam Pakistan Party (app) in Rawalpindi, former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi issued a scathing criticism of the current political and economic situation in the country on Friday.
Going to the workers and supporters of the party, the head of the application called the Pakistan justice system “a tool for political engineering” and warned that the growing inequality and poor governance were pushing the country towards instability.
Abbasi questioned the recent judgment of opposition leaders. “If the opposition leader was sentenced to 30 years, that trial would have been lived live on television,” he said. “Not only justice should be done, but it must be seen,” he said.
“Who will invest in a country where the opposition leader is sentenced as a criminal without a transparent process?” asked. He added that the concept of justice had been completely eroded in Pakistan. “The justice and justice system is over.”
The former prime minister accused the government of using state machinery to obtain personal and political profits. The government is being used to earn money, not to serve people, “he accused.
Directing his attention to the economy, Abbasi said that a government that has not gone through the real mandate of people cannot lead the country to development. He cited the example of sugar export policy as evidence of elite capture and collusion.
“There was shortage, however, 15% of our sugar was allowed to export,” he said. “Pakistan produces almost 6 million tons of sugar, but the owners of sugar factories, who also sit in Parliament, are sold to intermediaries, and then sugar prices increase for common citizens.”
Abbasi questioned whether the government had made any improvement in education, medical care or governance during the last eight months.
