The local leadership of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has announced plans to protest the failure to arrest assassinated former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto on December 27 at the site of her assassination.

The event, which coincides with the 17th anniversary of Bhutto’s assassination, will underline the party’s determination to seek justice for her killers, with leaders asserting that accountability will eventually prevail.

Party leaders highlighted the lasting legacy of the Bhutto family and emphasized the important national milestones achieved under their leadership.

“Whenever PPP came to power, salaries of employees increased, prosperity came and the country progressed. Despite expressing frustration over broken political promises in Punjab, they emphasized their commitment to democracy and the rule of law, avoiding tactics that could harm the national economy through protest politics.

The leaders also hailed the Supreme Court’s recent decision to set aside the verdict of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s trial after 45 years, calling it a historic step towards justice. They urged the government to formally recognize Bhutto as a martyr and declare April 4 a holiday in her honor.
