CCP to listen to the sugar price box today

Islamabad:

The Pakistan Competition Commission (CCP) will begin to start the hearings today (Monday) in a case related to the alleged collusion in sugar prices.

The Commission issued notices to the Association of Moletas Sugar de Pakistan (PSMA) and its member factories after the case was sent back to listen again to the Court of Appeals of the Competition.

The PCCH has scheduled audiences in the case of sugar cartelization for August 4, 5, 6 and 7, which ordered all interested parties to name their representatives and guarantee their availability on the designated dates, together with all relevant tests and documentation.

At the beginning of May, the Competition Court of Appeals had returned the case to the PCCH to listen again after announcing its verdict on the appeals presented by Sugar Mills and the association against a RS44b fine.

The court instructed that the case is rejected under the supervision of the president of the PCCH or any other member who was not previously involved in the hearings. The court also ordered the commission to complete the new hearing and issue a verdict within 90 days.

In 2021, the PCCH had imposed a fine of RS44 billion in the PSMA and its member factories for forming a poster to set sugar prices and participate in other anti -competitive practices.
