Islamabad:
The Interior Committee of the National Assembly approved a significant amendment on Tuesday, declaring that section 320 of the non -skillful PPC in cases where a person dies due to reckless driving.
The committee met at the Parliament’s house with Raja Khurram Shahzad Nawaz in La Silla. The committee unanimously approved the amendment to the law, which ensures that the accused drivers involved in fatal accidents due to negligence cannot ensure bond.
The proposal was part of the draft amendment of Criminal Law 2024, presented by the PPP legislator Sharmila Farooqui, who stressed that 128 people died in traffic accidents in Islamabad last year.
“Accidents do not discriminate between the poor and the rich,” said the member of the Qadir Patel committee. “Even God forgives mistakes, but the law must defend justice.” The members supported the amendment to section 320 of the PPC.
Section 320 PPC deals with the punishment for ‘Qatl-I-Kata’, a form of guilty homicide, for eruption or negligent conduction. However, the Committee maintained section 319, which also dealt with ‘Qatl-I-Kata’, without changes.
The Committee also approved the draft amendment against terrorism 2024 without any opposition. Meanwhile, the CRPC 2025 amendment bill was deferred to the next session at the request of the Ministry of Law.
In particular, no member backed by PTI attended the meeting. In the middle of PTI’s call to protests in Islamabad, Interior Minister of Talal Chaudhry declared that only eight people were arrested. He criticized PTI’s leadership for not following the appropriate procedures.
Talking to journalists after the meeting, Chaudhry said the PTI had requested permission for email protest, but never followed. He added that the provincial authorities communicated with the local leadership of the PTI but did not receive an answer.
