NEW DELHI:
The main court of India will listen to a declaration of the restoration of the federal state of Kashmiro at the end of this week, court officials said on Tuesday, since the region marked six years under the direct rule of New Delhi.
The hearing, scheduled for August 8 in the Supreme Court, follows a request presented by two residents of the territory in dispute, where a separatist insurgency has been unleashed for years.
The Hindu nationalist government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in August 2019 revoked the limited autonomy of Iiojk and brought it directly under federal control.
The measure was accompanied by mass arrests and a blackout of communications that extended for months while India reinforced its armed forces in the region to contain protests.
