The silence fell into the last practice of the Houston Texans training camp in West Virginia after one of the team’s key defensive players seemed seriously injured.
The final scrimmage of the Texans Intraasquad in the Greenbrier Resort was underway when the defensive CJ Gardner-Johnson fell to the ground after the teammate John Metchie III approached.
Gardner-Johnson was in remarkable discomfort and seemed to have difficulty moving his right leg. Texans coaches and other players soon surrounded Gardner-Johnson before medical staff helped security to a car.

Gardner-Johnson won his first Super Bowl title last season during his second period with the Philadelphia Eagles. The month after the Eagles captured the second Vince Lombardi trophy of the franchise, Gardner-Johnson was sent to Houston.

The Eagles received the offensive line Kenyon Green in exchange for Gardner-Johnson. The exchange also involved an exchange of draft selection.
The arrival of Gardner-Johnson to Houston helped fill a void in the security place. Jimmie Ward appears as free backup security in the depth table of the Texans, but was recently placed in the physically unable to perform due to a foot problem.

An arrest in Montgomery County, Texas, in June, after an alleged incident of family violence had no longer made it clear if Ward would be ready to play when the regular season begins next month.
Until Thursday, Ward had not faced any disciplinary action of the NFL.

The Texans high school still presents Derek Stingley Jr., who received the Honors All-Pro after his outstanding 2024 season. Kamari Lassiter is grooved as the other initial corner of the team.
Gardner-Johnson finished the 2024 campaign with six interceptions, which tied their career in their career for a season.
