“We just want to take a moment tonight to recognize Ab Hernández for his sand, his passion and his dedication to this sport,” said Cervantes.

“I am very proud to know that you continue prevailing despite all the noise, and you are focused on your goals and your dreams and your aspirations. We know how difficult it is to reach that level, to be an athlete at that level, and thus, again, again, your dedication and passion is an inspiration for many.”

No female athlete who competed in the Girls State Athletics Championship were honored at the event on Friday.

Hernández’s participation in the state finals in May became the focus of an immense political debate after President Donald Trump published in Truth Social in the days prior to the competition that warns the State that does not allow Trans athletes to compete.

The California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) made a series of radical rules changes in the days before the event to ensure that any woman who ended behind a biological man is properly rewarded a medal based where they placed among the female competitors.

During the medal ceremonies for the three events, the female competitors who finished a place behind Hernández had to stand next to the trans athlete on the podium.

Even with changes in the rule, Hernández’s presence in the competition of girls caused controversy and a strong presence of protest throughout the weekend. A plane flying a banner that said “There are no boys in girls’ sports!” It passed over the stadium.

The contradictory protests affected the championship with Pro-LGBTQ protesters and pro-femenine protesters who handled signs, flags and clothes that express their respective messages.

The conflict between the protesters at one time became violent, when a LGBTQ protester supposedly hit local conservative activist Josh Fulfer with a flag post. Police records obtained by Pak Gazette Digital Show A man was arrested by assault with a mortal weapon that is not a weapon, obstructing a public officer and vandalism.

The United States Department of Justice launched a lawsuit against CIF and the California Department of Education to allegedly violate the title IX with their policies that allow men to compete in girls’ sports.

The demand of the DOJ is asking for a court order in the State’s policy that allows men to compete against women in sports.

California’s policies “Evisce the same athletics opportunities for girls … They also require girls to share intimate spaces, such as locker room, with boys, causing a hostile educational environment that denies the educational opportunities of girls,” said the demand.

It will be the second legal battle that the Department of Justice is fighting for the issue, after having launched a similar against Maine in April.
