A military officer embraced martyrdom, while 13 terrorists were eliminated in three night engagements, including Intelligence Based Operations (IBO). in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP), the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement on Thursday.
The army’s media wing said Major Muhammad Awais was martyred while leading his troops from the front during an IBO in North Waziristan district. He added that two other clashes took place in South Waziristan and Bannu districts.
“In view of the reported presence of Khwarij, the Security Forces carried out an intelligence-based operation in the general area of Jani Khel, Bannu district. During the operation, their own troops effectively attacked the location of Khwarij and as a result, two Khwarij were sent to hell.” the ISPR said.
“Another intelligence-based operation was carried out in North Waziristan district. In the subsequent exchange of fire, five Khwarij were effectively neutralized by security forces, while eight Khwarij were injured,” the ISPR statement added.
“However, during an intense exchange of fire, Major Muhammad Awais (age: 31 years, resident of Narowal district), a brave officer, leading his troops from the front, after having fought bravely, made the ultimate sacrifice and embraced Shahadat.”
In a third encounter that took place in South Waziristan district, the ISPR claimed that “own troops successfully neutralized six Khwarij, while eight Khwarij were injured.” He added that sanitization operations were being carried out to eliminate any other terrorists found in the area.
“Pakistan security forces are determined to eradicate the menace of terrorism and such sacrifices of our brave soldiers further strengthen our resolve,” the ISPR statement concluded.
Meanwhile, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in their separate statements, paid tribute to Major Muhammad Awais Shaheed and praised the bravery of the security forces for eliminating 13 terrorists in the successful operations in KP.
The President said Major Muhammad Awais of Pakistan Army embraced martyrdom while bravely fighting terrorists in North Waziristan. “The entire nation saluted the martyr Major Awais and was determined to eradicate terrorism in all its forms,” the Prime Minister said.
The president expressed the determination to “continue actions against Fitna al-Khawarij until its complete elimination,” stressing that the entire nation stands with the security forces in the war against terrorism. “Operations against the threat of terrorism will continue until its complete eradication.”
