Surfshark has launched a new route optimization function called Fasttrack that promises VPN connections up to 70% faster.
Fasttrack is an intelligent routing system that is based on Nexus, Surfshark multiple routes technology, to enrut traffic through a network of servers instead of a single VPN tunnel for increased internet speeds.
How does Surfshark Fasttrack work?
Surfshark Fasttrack optimizes the traffic of the router thanks to the probes distributed worldwide that perform speed tests, measure latency and keep the results. Then, the probes determine the most efficient and faster route for a user located in a specific country that wishes to access a specific VPN location.
In statements to Techradar, Karolis Kaciulis, leading systems engineer in Surfshark, emphasizes how the The Nexus Nexus Nexus de Surfshark network approach allows the Fasttrack system to constantly adjust the route to ensure that traffic always travels along the most optimized and stable roads and deliver a better performance to the selected locations.
“The latency is the main decision metric for the selection of routes, and in our ecosystem, it correlates directly with the speed improvements,” he explains.
According to Kaciulis, security is maintained during the entire perforation process in real time. “In dynamically redirecting user connections in several Nixus network hops, it becomes significantly more difficult for any unique entity to associate a user’s IP address with its online activity,” he says.

Fasttrack also offers solutions in case of possible routing errors, thanks to its stable Nexus infrastructure. In fact, a key characteristic of Nexus is to be redundant, Kaciulis explains. Because of that, if there are errors or routing or network problems, controllers within a server use the administrative Nexus network to obtain new work routes inside the network to the desired locations.
However, the benefits of surfshark approach are deeper, trying to provide a better managed network than ISP themselves.
“It is no secret that ISP for residential networks (which are used by most people) are not as stable and robust as they could be,” explains Kaciulis. “Surfshark VPN, on the other hand, operates in a data center network, which provides better interconnectivity, without strangulation or limitations.”
However, it is important to mention that users who are already physically very close to Fasttrack’s location will not experience the benefit, for example, people in Sydney will not see speed profits when connecting with Sydney fasttrack.
It remains to be seen if there is any inconvenience. Could the new feature worse the performance of long -term surfshark, such as compromising connections to transmission services? I do not agree with Kaciulis, who assures us that this is an upward update that “will increase the performance of the network regardless of user activity.”
How to use Surfshark Fasttrack
Surfshark Fasttrack is currently available at the supplier Mac VPN applications in three locations: Seattle, Sydney and Vancouver.
To take advantage of the increased speeds, all you need to do is go to the surfshark servers list within its macos application and touch one of the improved Fasttrack locations, which are marked with a connection route icon.
That said, the firm confirmed to Techradar is actively exploring the opportunities to expand its network even more to meet the evolutionary needs of its community.
