- A Tiktok user damaged his MacBook screen unexpectedly
- The problem was caused by a card placed under the lid
- Even something as harmless as this can break a laptop screen
For many Macbook owners, it is a nightmare that comes true: you open the lid of your expensive laptop and light it, just to find the screen is a disaster, with black bars and failed colors everywhere. The screen has ruined, and it will cost a lot to succeed.
Oblutingly, it is actually much easier to experience this than one would expect: only an apparently harmless action can cause hundreds of dollars of damage.
That is something that Tiktok User Classicheidi discovered by the bad. In a video up to the social networks platform, Classicheidi explained that they had placed a card on the keyboard of their Macbook Air, then closed the lid.
When they opened it again a while later, the screen was ruined.
An expensive error
This is an unfortunate incident, but there is a reason why it happened. It is not because Apple’s laptop screens (or those of any other manufacturer, for the case) are weak or badly made. But although they should certainly be treated carefully, there is another problem at stake.
This is what Apple describes in a support document as the “narrow tolerances” of its laptops. Apple macbooks are made to be the thinnest as possible, which means that the gap between the keyboard and the screen is very small when the lid is closed.
Anything placed in that gap, even something as modest as a letter, can be pushed up against the screen, with the resulting pressure that leads to severe damage.
For that reason, Apple warns that “leaving any material on its screen, keyboard or rest of palm could interfere with the screen when closed and cause damage to its screen.” If you have a camera cover, a palm rest cover or a keyboard cover, Apple says it must delete it before closing the lid of your laptop to avoid this type of scenario; Unfortunately, it is something we have seen before.
If you want to avoid the type of results that Classicheidi suffered, it is important to ensure that there is nothing between the keyboard and the screen of your laptop when closing it. If there is, I could open it to “the largest jump issue of the century”, in the words of Classicheidi.
