Islamabad:
Pakistan welcomed the prize provided by the Arbitration Court on the General Interpretation Affairs of the Indo Water Treaty (IWT) on Monday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
The award was announced on August 8 and was published on the website of the Court on Monday. The ruling interprets the criteria designed for the new hydroelectric projects of Río Run-Off-River, which will be built by India in the Western rivers: Chenab, Jhelum and Indus.
“It is a support of Pakistan’s historical position on the issues mentioned above,” said the statement issued by the spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while refers to the unilateral decision of IWT and India to maintain the treaty in suspense.
“The prize is especially important following the recent announcement of India to keep the IWT in suspense, and its previous decision to boycott the procedures of the Arbitration Court,” the spokesman detected.
“Pakistan remains committed to the complete implementation of the Indo Water Treaty. He also hopes that India immediately resume the normal functioning of the treaty and faithfully implements the prize announced by the Arbitration Court,” he added.
