- Elon Musk says that Apple’s application store is partial against Grok
- Sam Altman responds, accusing Elon to manipulate X in favor of Grok
- Apple has not responded to any of the claims
Elon Musk, CEO of XAI, the company behind the Grok AI Chatbot, has accused the Apple Applications store towards Openai in a demanding publication in X that threatens legal actions on antimonopoly issues.
In the publication, Musk writes: “Apple is behaving in a way that makes it impossible for any AI company in addition to OpenAi reaching #1 in the App Store, which is an unequivocal antimonopoopoopoopoolio violation. Xai will take immediate legal measures.”

Other Musk publications clarify their complaints, including a publication set at the top of its X.com account that says: “Hello @apple, App Store, why do you refuse to put X or Grok in your section ‘debs have’ when x is the application of news #1 in the world and Grok is #5 among all applications?
Musk also gave examples of screenshots that show how Grok is not mentioned in the various AI applications summaries found in the App Store, while competitors such as Copilot and Google Gemini are mentioned.
Altman goes back
Sam Altman, the Operai CEO, hastened Applaud in X, stating: “This is a remarkable statement given what I have heard alleged that Elon does to manipulate X to benefit his own companies and damage his competitors and people who do not like.”

Altman is linked to an article on platform game that alleges that Musk created a team to modify the X algorithm to benefit its own tweets. This statement is based on a comparison between its Super Bowl tweet, which expressed its support for the Philadelphia Eagles, and a similar one by then President Joe Biden.
Apple’s legal problems with the App Store have already caused a very public dispute with the Epic Games of the Fortnite developer in recent years. Much of the disagreement has focused on the rates that Apple charges applications to execute on its platforms. Epic Games has recently won a judicial battle in Australia with the ruling that Apple and Google have dedicated themselves to anti -competitive behavior with respect to the domain of the application market. Epic has recently confirmed that Fortnite will soon return to Apple devices in Australia.
Apple and Openai signed an agreement in 2024, which saw Apple Integrate Chatgpt in Apple Intelligence, allowing Siri to be delivered to Chatgpt if a consultation was too complex.
Musk’s complaint with Apple has more to do with the way the application store promotes some applications on others. In another publication in X, Musk says: “Apple is the entrance door to the Internet for half of the United States. They are impossible for any other AI company to succeed, promoting OpenAi without rest in every possible way!”
However, as many people have indicated in X, in January 2025, the Depseek application reached number 1 in general in the application store, and perplexity reached number 1 in general in the APP Store of India. Both occurred after the Operai and Apple association were announced in June 2024.
Techradar has communicated with Apple to comment on this story and will be updated with more information if the company responds.
