Director General (DG) Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry addresses a press conference at Headquarters in Rawalpindi to give an update on the ongoing counter-terrorism operations of Pakistan Armed Forces .

The briefing comes amid growing security concerns, with a notable rise in attacks on security forces and law enforcement agencies, particularly in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

This is the ISPR spokesperson’s fifth press conference this year.

In a recent attack, 16 Pakistani soldiers were martyred last week when terrorists ambushed a checkpoint in the Makeen area of South Waziristan. The attack received a swift response from the armed forces, who killed eight militants in the ensuing gunfight.

The military continued its operations with an Intelligence Based Operation (IBO) in the region, which led to the killing of 13 more terrorists. The next day, 13 more militants were killed during three separate security operations in Bannu, North Waziristan and South Waziristan districts of the KP.

Today’s press conference also comes after the military court issued its verdict, holding 60 people responsible for their role in the May 9 riots.

Earlier, the ISPR also announced the conviction of 85 civilians for their participation in the violent protests on May 9 last year. These protests, which the military claims were coordinated by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), resulted in protesters being sentenced to prison terms ranging from two to ten years.

Earlier this month, former intelligence chief Lt. Gen. Faiz Hameed, who was arrested by the military in August, was formally charged with engaging in political activities.

During its previous press conference on September 5, the DG ISPR had stated that the proceedings before the Field General Court Martial (FGCM) against General Hameed were initiated after a thorough investigation based on substantial evidence .
