- The dream of the Tesla’s supercomputer ends after the leadership changes and mass outputs remodel their AI strategy
- The Dojo project sought to revolutionize autonomous driving before internal changes stopped its impulse
- The chips agreement of $ 16.5 billion Samsung with Tesla marks an important turn in the development of AI
Tesla has closed her Dojo Supercomputer team, in what seems to be an important change in the company’s artificial intelligence plans.
Reports of Bloomberg They claim that the decision continued at the exit of the leader of the Peter Bannon team and the loss of another 20 personnel members to a newly formed company called Densitseai.
The remaining members of the team will now reallocate other computer projects and data centers within Tesla.
Leadership exit triggers Tesla’s shaking
The Dojo system originally developed around custom training chips designed to process large amounts of driving and video data of Tesla electric vehicles.
The objective was to use this information to train the company’s autonomous driving software more efficiently than standard systems.
However, CEO Elon Musk said in X that it no longer made sense to divide the resources between two different chips.
Tesla has not responded to comments requests, but Musk has outlined the company’s approach to develop its AI5 and AI6 chips.
He said that these would be “excellent for inference and at least quite good for training” and that they could be placed in large supercomputer groups, a configuration he suggested could be called “Dojo 3.”
The change of the company of the Dojo project occurs in the midst of broader restructuring efforts that have seen multiple executive exits and thousands of employment cuts.
Tesla has also been working on the integration of AI tools such as Grok Chatbot in its vehicles, expanding its AI ambitions beyond autonomous driving technology.
Tesla’s plans for the future computing infrastructure of AI and the production of chips after Dojo depend largely on external technology suppliers, and NVIDIA and AMD are expected to provide computer capabilities, while Samsung Electronics will manufacture chips for the company.
Samsung recently obtained an agreement of $ 16.5 billion to provide chips from AI to Tesla, which is expected to feed autonomous vehicles, humanoid robots and data centers.
Musk has previously said that the new Samsung plant in Texas will produce the Tesla AI6 chip, with a planned AI5 production by the end of 2026.
For now, Musk seems safe that the Tesla Chip Route map will support its ambitions.
But with the original Dojo team largely and dependence on the increase in external partners, the company’s trajectory will depend on whether its new chips and computer infrastructure can deliver the results that MUSK has promised.
