ATC releases Qureshi, prison to other PTI leaders

In compliance with a recent order, the Anti -Terror Court (ATC) has issued “Liberation Orders” to the Superintendent of the Central Prison Kot Lakhppp for PTI Shah Mahmood Qureshi, acquitted in two separate cases.

The ATC judge, Manzar Ali Gill, issued arrest orders in relation to FIRS 768/23 and 103/23, both registered after the May 9 riots that followed the arrest of the founder of PTI Imran Khan. Qureshi had been acquitted in cases on August 11.

Going to the prison superintendent, Judge Gill declared: “This is to authorize and demand that the defendant Shah Mahmood Qureshi free from this case immediately, if

Separately, the ATC Manzer Ali Gill judge issued a “commitment of imprisonment sentences”, ordering the Superintendent of the central prison Kot Lakhpat who received the leaders of PTI Umar Sarfraz Chema, Dr. Yasmin Rashid, Ejaz Chaudhry, Mihmeod UR Rasheed and others in custody. The Superintendent received instructions to execute his prayers in accordance with the law.

In his order, announced on August 11, Judge Gill also granted sentences to the legislators and workers of PTI, and ordered the loss of properties belonging to the former governor of PTI, Umar Sarfraz Chema, Dr. Yasmin Rashid, Ejaz Chaudhry, Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed and other workers under section 7 (2) of anti-terrorism (ATA).

It is noteworthy that, according to the trials announced by ATC throughout the province, more than 120 legislators and workers of PTI have had their lost properties. Previously, the ATC in Faisalabad had ordered the loss of property of 90 convicts, while the Sargodha court, in two cases, had lost the properties of 30 convicts under section 7 (2) of the Anti -Terrorism Law, 1997.

On May 9, 2023, PTI legislators and supporters organized violent protests throughout the country in reaction to the arrest of the founder of PTI Imran Khan. These protests included the vandalism of military facilities and other state buildings, including the house of the body commander in Lahore.

A day before, an ATC in Lahore announced its verdict in two separated cases of May 9, condemning some PTI key figures.

The ATC, which celebrated its procedures in a Court Chamber within the Kot Lakhpat de Lahore prison, however, acquitted Qureshi in both cases recorded following the disturbance incidents that exploded after the arrest of the founder of PTI Imran Khan on May 9, 2023.

Lahore ATC-I Judge Manzer Ali Gill announced his verdict reserved a week ago in two cases related respectively to the burning of police vehicles in Rahat Bakery, near the house of the commander of Lahore’s body and the attack at the Shadman Police station on May 9, 2023.

In the case of Rahat Bakery, the judge acquitted seven of the 17 defendants, including Shah Mahmood Qureshi, but sentenced the others, including Chema, Dr. Yasmin, Ejaz Chaudhry, Rashid at ten years in prison.
