Poliovirus found in 36% of the samples of 87 districts

Islamabad:

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) confirmed on Tuesday the presence of Poliovirus in 42 of 117 samples of wastewater collected from 87 districts throughout the country in July, which generated concerns about the continuous circulation of the virus despite the intensified eradication efforts.

According to the NIH regional reference laboratory, positive samples represented almost 36% of the total proven, compared to 32% in June. Of 127 wastewater samples collected, 75 tested negative, 42 positive and 10 are still under analysis.

Sindh recorded the highest detections, with 19 of 29 positive samples, followed by Punjab with 12 of 27.
