- Nintendo has presented a patent for a new attachment of Joy-Con Switch 2
- The patent shows a crank and a click wheel that would apparently make the Joy-Con 2 controllers a fishing reel.
- The patent was presented in February 2024
Nintendo has presented a patent for a new accessory by Joy-Con Switch 2 that seems to convert its controller into a fishing reel.
First seen by Nintendo Patents Watch (through Polygon), the patent shows two Joy-Con 2 accessories that seem to be a crank and a click wheel.
The crank is described as a mounted input device that would use mouse sensors to track movement and magnets to ensure the accessory.
The wheel that can be click would also use magnets to remain in place, and its rotation would be tracked by mouse sensors. The accessory also seems to present a second button to press the right shoulder (SR) of the console.
Presumably, this attachment could be used for a variety of games with fishing mechanics such as Animal Cross: New Horizonsor a potential Kuru Kuru Kururin revival and Game Date Ports, as Nintendo patents theorized.
A totally new game for the Switch 2 that Nintendo has not yet announced is a possibility.
Although the patent application was published recently, it was presented in February 2024, suggesting that Nintendo has been working on the new accessory for some time, with the compatibility of Switch 2 in mind. That said, it is worth taking into account that not all patents see daylight as an official product.
In case you missed it, the last Nintendo Indie World Showcase for August 2025 was full of ads. While there was no Caballero Hollow: Silksong News, there were many other indie revelations, including a new game of Shovel knight Creators, several metroidvania style titles and more.
