Afridi could not meet Imran in Adiala jail

A medical examination of Imran has been completed in Adiala and doctors are monitoring his affected eye.

RAWALPINDI:

Islamabad Police on Tuesday stopped KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi from proceeding to Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi where he intended to meet jailed PTI founding president Imran Khan.

Afridi, who left for Rawalpindi prison on the same day, was accompanied by Imran’s sisters and several PTI workers and leaders.

However, the police stopped the delegation at Chungi No26 in Islamabad from moving towards Adiala Jail, despite heated arguments, following which the party leaders staged a sit-in.

Meanwhile, several PTI leaders, including Salman Akram Raja, lawyer Gohar Ali Khan and Bushra Bibi’s daughters, reached Adiala jail but were not allowed to meet Imran.

It is pertinent to note that Imran Khan’s visiting hours ended at 4 p.m.

The PTI later ended its hours-long sit-in at Chungi No26 on Tuesday night.

Afridi, while speaking to the media at Peshawar Mor junction on the Srinagar Highway, said that he had peacefully traveled to Islamabad to express his solidarity with Imran’s sisters.

He said party workers demonstrated restraint, discipline and responsibility despite repeated obstacles and restrictions.

“It is deeply worrying that the elected chief executive of a province, accompanied by his cabinet, has been prevented from proceeding,” he said, describing the move as inconsistent with democratic norms and reflecting a discriminatory approach towards a federative unit.

Imran medical checkup

A medical examination of Imran was completed at Adiala Jail on Tuesday, and a team of doctors conducted a follow-up assessment of his affected eye along with a broader health check-up, according to jail sources.

Sources said that the medical team, after completing the examination, left Adiala jail after a visit that lasted almost one and a half hours.
