Ben Askren speaks of hard health battle

The former star of MMA Ben Askren provided a health update more than a month after being hospitalized with a serious illness that required a double lung transplant.

Askren published a video on social networks from his hospital bed on Wednesday. He said he did not remember anything from May 28 to July 2.

“It was like a movie,” he said, adding that he read his wife’s diary to catch up with what had happened to him. “He only died four times, where the ticket stopped for about 20 seconds.

“But I got the double lung transplant. I arrived on the other side. Gain enough strength. Learning to use everything again. Yesterday I was on a scale, 147 pounds. I have not been 147 pounds since 15 years … So that was a battle. I don’t remember most.”

Amy Askren wrote last week that her husband received a donor for the double lung transplant after they fell ill in May.

“What was most shocking for me was all the love I felt of everyone and it was almost as if I had to be at my own funeral … the effusion of the love of the fighting community was simply incredible,” he said. “He felt very good. I am more motivated than ever to give back.”

Askren recently signed with a true American freestyle: Hulk Hogan’s company hopes to popularize free professional wrestling.

The 40 -year -old was a champion of the NCAA in the 170 -pound division in 2006 and 2007 and competed for the US team. In the 2008 Olympic Games. He won gold medals in the 2005 Pan American Championship and the 2009 World Championship.

He made his full transition to MMA Fighting when he debuted in Bellator in 2010. He then competed in a championship before facing UFC.

He defeated Robbie Lawler by submission at UFC 235 before he lost to Jorge Masvidal in a high profile fight. In 2021, he fought against Jake Paul in a boxing match.
