During the Euro between Denmark and Finland in June 2021, the game was suspended after a terrifying scene in which Eriksen suffered cardiac arrest on the field in the first half of the match.
Play was immediately stopped at Copenhagen’s Parken stadium, where Eriksen lay unconscious on the grass. CPR was needed to resuscitate him, as medical staff and his teammates formed a circle around his body in clear distress, hoping for the best.

Eriksen received 10 minutes of medical attention and was then taken off the field on a stretcher with an oxygen mask around his mouth. At that time, images began to circulate on social media showing Eriksen awake and with a hand on his forehead.
Eriksen was later taken to a hospital and stabilized.
From that point on, Eriksen was fitted with a cardiac starting device called an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator.
Danish team doctor Morten Boesen issued a statement through various media, stating that “Eriksen’s pacemaker is responding as it should.”

“He was briefly unconscious, but regained consciousness very quickly and we were quickly in contact with him,” Boesen’s statement read.
“He will not undergo any further tests at the hospital to determine the cause of the incident. We are in continuous contact with him and the doctors at the hospital. But Christian is fine and he asked me to send my regards to all the players and tell them that he was fine.”
