- IPVanish adds in-app filter to identify and connect to RAM-only servers
- After an initial launch, the tool is now available in all supported apps.
- RAM-only servers run in volatile memory and wipe all data on reboot
IPVanish just made it easier to take control of your online privacy by introducing a dedicated RAM-only filter across all apps.
The tool allows you to easily find and connect to your growing network of RAM-only servers. By enabling the filter, you can explore available endpoints by country, region, and city, instantly detecting which clusters have already been upgraded to diskless infrastructure. This provides an immediate and transparent way to make informed decisions about your digital privacy.
IPVanish has been quietly releasing interface updates to its apps since September. However, with its latest release, the new filtering tool is now officially available on all supported apps including Android, iOS, Windows, macOS, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, and Android TV.
What are RAM-only servers and why are they important?
If you’re not familiar with what VPN servers are or how they work, the move to RAM-only technology is looking to be a significant privacy improvement.
Traditional servers They depend on hard disk drives (HDD) to function. While reputable vendors protect these drives with full disk encryption and strict no-logging policies, the physical storage still exists.
RAM only serverson the other hand, it runs entirely in volatile memory. This means that every time the server is rebooted or shut down, all data is instantly and permanently deleted.
According to IPVanish’s blog post, these specialized servers “eliminate even the theoretical risk of data persistence.” Acts as a safety net; Even in the worst-case scenario, where authorities physically seize a server or compromise it, there should be no remaining data left to recover.
Beyond the obvious privacy benefits, the company notes that ditching hard drives also brings notable performance benefits. IPVanish claims that the upgraded servers offer “faster processing, improved reliability, and smoother VPN connections for streaming, gaming, and everyday browsing.”
The path to a completely diskless network
This new app filter is part of a much broader infrastructure overhaul. As TechRadar previously reported, IPVanish officially took its first steps toward diskless networking earlier this year, joining biggies like NordVPN and ExpressVPN in adopting the technology.
While the network is not yet completely diskless, the provider is aggressively upgrading its hardware. IPVanish has confirmed that it is transitioning to a “completely RAM-only global network by 2027.”
As the company continues to expand its RAM-only coverage in North America, Europe, South America, and the Asia-Pacific region throughout 2026, those newly updated cities will automatically appear under the app’s filter.
For now, the new switch ensures real-time transparency into exactly where those ultra-secure connections are available today.
