Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti on Saturday said the provincial government had constituted a judicial commission to probe the Ziarat incident, a day after an agreement between the government and protesters ended a multi-day sit-in organized in response to the terror attack in Ziarat’s Mangi area.

Bugti confirmed the development during a meeting with Pakistan People’s Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari at Zardari House in Islamabad, where he briefed the party chief about the administrative and political situation in the province as well as the recent security situation.

During the briefing, the Prime Minister said he had played his full role in comforting the families affected by the Ziarat incident and fulfilling their demands.

He said a judicial commission had been set up at the request of the bereaved families to investigate the incident.

Bugti also announced that an all-party conference on restoring peace in Balochistan would be convened soon, adding that political parties outside parliament would also be invited to participate.

During the meeting, Bilawal paid tribute to the army, Frontier Corps and police personnel who were martyred in the recent spate of terrorism.

“I can feel the pain of the grieving families of the martyrs in the recent terrorist incidents,” the PPP president said.

He also praised Bugti for successful negotiations with protesters and his efforts to address the concerns of bereaved families.

“You have played a positive role in healing the pain of the families bereaved by the Ziarat incident and making the negotiation process successful,” Bilawal said.

Thanking the opposition parties for their role in the success of the negotiations, the PPP president said that political dialogue remained the only solution to the political problems of Balochistan.

“Pakistan People’s Party believes in political dialogue with political parties, whether in power or opposition,” he said.

Reiterating the country’s long-standing stance on terrorism, he said the nation stands as “a steel wall” against terrorism.
