Lawyer Panel Demands Full Court Hearing Against 26th Amendment

ISLAMABAD:

The Lawyers Action Committee has demanded that the appointment of judges be suspended until the petitions filed in the Supreme Court against the 26th Constitutional Amendment are concluded.

At a press conference in Islamabad, the lawyers’ leaders said that if the Supreme Court declares the 26th Constitutional Amendment invalid, the new judges will be removed. The 26th amendment has destroyed the judicial system.

The lawyer leaders demanded that SC judges protect the Constitution and that a full court be formed to hear petitions against the 26th amendment.

Lawyer Riasat Ali Azad said the impression is being created that the body of lawyers is making decisions at the behest of a political party. “We do not have a political agenda but we fight for constitutional supremacy,” said the leading lawyer.

Meanwhile, the IHC Bar also challenged the 26th amendment before the Supreme Court. The bar association has asked the high court to strike down the constitutional amendment.
