- Connected apps will automatically update your LinkedIn profile with your skills
- Adobe and GitHub will be added to the support list soon
- LinkedIn has 1.3 billion users, so this should help you stand out
LinkedIn has launched a new initiative to allow users to show what software they actively use on their profile in a bid to verify claims of competence.
The company explained in a blog post that the intent of Connected Apps is to provide evidence of actual product usage, rather than simply self-declaring skills, making it easier for recruiters and employers to verify claims.
“Once connected, each application generates a simple statement based on its actual activity,” explained the Microsoft-owned platform.
LinkedIn verifies your claimed skills by seeing what apps you use
The connection works by linking supported apps directly to a LinkedIn profile, and then the system will automatically fill in the details of how the individual uses a given app and what skills they demonstrate. Importantly, users cannot manually change these descriptions to falsify skill claims, and will receive a notification when a summary is added or updated.
In a support document, LinkedIn described the summary as a “structured, data-backed description of what you actually do with the tool.”
“We’re creating new ways for members to show real, credible evidence of what they’re capable of, right on their LinkedIn profile,” added CEO Dan Shapero.
Compatible apps can be added to a profile through the Add > Connected Apps section. Descript, Duolingo, Lovable, Relay.app and Replit are among the first supported apps, with Adobe Express, Adobe Firefly, GitHub and more on the horizon.
The platform now claims to have 1.3 billion members, driving its recent 12% year-over-year growth in quarterly revenue.
