Massimiliano Allegri is set to immediately return to the dugout after reaching a full verbal agreement to become Napoli’s next coach.
The former AC Milan coach, sacked by the club this week, has agreed to sign a two-year contract as Antonio Conte’s replacement at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
De Laurentiis chooses Allegri for the post-Conte era
Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has taken decisive steps to secure a successor for Conte, after the Italian left the club by mutual agreement at the end of the season, opting for the experienced Allegri.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, negotiations between the two parties accelerated significantly in the last 24 hours, resulting in a full verbal agreement for Allegri to take the reins of Napoli on a two-year contract.
The Tuscan tactician emerged as the best option after a selection process in which he beat off competition from other candidates, including outgoing Bologna coach Vincenzo Italiano.
With the verbal agreement now in place, the Partenopei are ready to enter a new chapter under the guidance of one of the most successful coaches in modern Serie A history.
Legal teams begin work on contractual formalities

The transition from a verbal handshake to a formal date is already underway behind the scenes. Reports indicate that Napoli’s legal and administrative teams have already begun preparing the necessary paperwork to formalize the deal for Allegri.
Both lawyers and transfer officers are working on final contractual details before documents can be submitted for final signatures.
While the terms of the two-year deal are understood to be settled, the club is meticulous in ensuring all administrative hurdles are cleared.
This move signals De Laurentiis’ desire to provide stability and elite leadership to a team that remains ambitious at both national and European level.
Solving the last obstacle with Milan
Despite the advanced state of negotiations with Napoli, one final hurdle remains before Allegri can be officially presented as the new Partenopei boss.
Allegri must first resolve his current contractual situation with Milan after being fired by the club. Navigating the exit from your previous employment is a standard but necessary step before you can legally commit your future to the reigning Southern giants.
A proven winner with Scudetto ambitions

The appointment represents an important declaration of intent on the part of Napoli, as it brings in a coach with a brilliant CV.
Allegri has already won league titles with both Milan and Juventus, and his experience in handling the pressure of elite Italian clubs was a decisive factor for the Napoli hierarchy.
Despite a dismal season back home in Milan in 2025-26, Napoli believe his track record and tactical acumen make him the ideal candidate.
If it finishes as expected, Allegri will inherit a team that is preparing for another Champions League campaign while also attempting to mount a challenge for the Scudetto next season.
