Matt Damon and Ben Affleck face legal problems over their Netflix crime thriller The tear.
Miami police filed a lawsuit alleging the film damaged their reputation.
The film, which premiered in January under Damon and Affleck’s Artists Equity production company, is inspired by the 2016 Miami Lakes drug raid.
The case involved a major police operation that led to the seizure of more than $24 million in cash.
Police officers who participated in the actual operation now say the film gives a false and unfair portrayal of what happened.
According to the lawsuit reported by local media, they argue that the film portrays them as corrupt and dishonest.
Detective Jonathan Santana, who led the original case, said the film has changed the way people view it.
He explained that instead of being respected for his work, he now faces jokes and accusations from the public for stealing money.
The lawsuit claims the film includes fabricated scenes showing agents behaving illegally, working with criminals and considering keeping seized money.
Agents claim this has caused lasting damage to their reputation.
His lawyer also argued that the characters in the film were just as “dirty” and unfairly damaged his clients’ names.
The Rip, which also stars Teyana Taylor, Sasha Calle, Scott Adkins and Steven Yeun, continues to face criticism for its depiction of real events and the city where the raid originally took place.
