In a recent interview with Nintendo Dream Web, Miyamoto told fans that Princess Peach’s backstory could be expanded on in future games, using The Super Mario Galaxy movie as a reference point.
Miyamoto said: “Because we don’t know what kind of game we will make next with our characters, having too many character settings would become a limitation. I’m fine with being tied down by the gameplay, but I don’t want to be tied down by having created a story, which has been the reason I haven’t made movies for many years.

“So before making this movie, I hadn’t decided on the character’s backstory, but now that I’m making the movie, it’s become fun to expand on the character in various ways. Therefore, I’d like to stick as closely as possible to the settings created in the movie in future games.”
