- Images of the Samsung Galaxy Wide Fold and Galaxy Z Fold 8 have been unearthed in the One UI 9 code
- The Z Fold 8 looks essentially identical to its predecessor, while the Wide Fold looks very different
- While the Wide Fold looks the most visually interesting, it could also be quite specific
Samsung is likely to launch two book-style folding phones this year, and the long-awaited Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 will likely be joined by the Samsung Galaxy Wide Fold, and we just got a somewhat official look at both.
You see, Samsung has included images of both devices in its One UI 9 software, and although these images are not currently intended for user viewing, Android Authority has managed to unearth them.
As you can see in the images below, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 (codenamed Q8) looks a lot like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, with a triple-lens camera on the back and a slightly narrow clamshell display. Visually, there’s nothing remarkable here, so it could be a boring update.

But the Samsung Galaxy Wide Fold (codenamed H8) is much more interesting, with just a dual-lens camera but a much wider clamshell display, which could almost match a small tablet even when closed.
This design is broadly consistent with previous leaks, so it’s not too surprising in that sense, but it’s the closest thing yet to an official look at the Galaxy Wide Fold, and it’s drastically different from any foldable phone Samsung has released so far.
Yes, there is the Samsung Galaxy Z Trifold, which has a foldable widescreen display, but it has three sections, and the cover screen is still quite narrow and phone-like, so it’s a fundamentally different proposition to the device shown here.
A questionable design
However, it remains to be seen whether the Samsung Galaxy Wide Fold will be a success with a design like this. After all, foldables are still a bit niche, and this design would mean they can’t match the form factor of a phone, even when folded. Personally, I’m not convinced, but I approve of brands experimenting with new designs.
And with the foldable iPhone Ultra also launching this year, we could be on the cusp of foldable phones becoming more common, at which point there could be more appetite for a phone like this.
When it comes to the Samsung Galaxy Wide Fold, we should know exactly what it has to offer in July, as that’s when it’s likely to land, along with the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8, and perhaps the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 FE.
