ISLAMABAD:
The federal government on Friday reduced the price of petrol by Rs 4 per liter and kept the price of high speed diesel (HSD) unchanged for the next week, according to a notification issued by the Petroleum Division of the Ministry of Power.
The notification said that the revised prices will come into effect from June 6, 2026 (today). Accordingly, it stated that the ex-depot price of petrol has been reduced to Rs 377.78 per liter from Rs 381.78 per litre, while the price of high-speed diesel remains unchanged at Rs 380.78 per litre.
The latest adjustment comes after a series of fuel price revisions in response to fluctuations in international oil markets. Last week, the government reduced petrol and diesel prices by Rs 22 per liter, providing significant relief to consumers amid changes in global energy prices.
Gasoline is used by motorcycles and cars. High-speed diesel is widely used in the transportation and agriculture sectors. Among other fuels, kerosene is used in remote areas, especially in the north of the country, where LPG is not available for cooking. Light diesel is used in industry.
The oil industry has recently witnessed a rise in smuggling of petroleum products, which has been a key threat to the sale of gasoline and diesel by refiners. The government has taken some measures, but smuggling continues, posing a serious threat even to the upgrade plans of local refineries.
