Intermittent rains continued in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad on Thursday, bringing pleasant weather and relief from the prevailing heat, while causing traffic disruptions in several low-lying areas due to water logging on roads.
According to official figures, the highest rainfall during the period of approximately eight and a half hours was recorded in Shamsabad, where 54 millimeters of rain fell. Other rainfall measurements included 46 mm at H-8, 45 mm at Katarian, 44 mm at Gawalmandi, 34 mm at Saidpur, 32 mm at Kutchery Chaklala, 26 mm at Bokra and Pirwadhai, and 19 mm at Golra.
Dark clouds covered the sky early in the morning, while cold winds significantly reduced temperatures. Rainfall began around 6 a.m. and continued intermittently throughout the day.
Officials from the district administration and Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) continued to be involved in monitoring low-lying areas and Nullah Leh. Water levels in the creek rose to eight feet at Katarian and 4.5 feet at Gawalmandi. Authorities described the situation as normal and under control.
Rainwater accumulated in several areas including Sadiqabad, Committee Chowk underpass, Asghar Mall Road, Mushtaq Baig Road, under COD bridge, Dhoke Chaudhrian and Chakri roads, Biscuit Factory Chowk, Saidpur Chowk and sections of IJ Principal Road.
