Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar discussed bilateral relations in a telephone conversation on Friday with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, the Foreign Ministry announced in an X post.

The two leaders also discussed “cooperation in multilateral forums in support of international peace and security,” the ministry said. Lavrov appreciated Pakistan’s constructive role in facilitating dialogue between Iran and the United States, the statement added.

Dar underlined Pakistan’s determination to continue contributing to efforts aimed at promoting dialogue and diplomacy to resolve all problems.

The foreign ministers further reiterated “the importance of maintaining regular high-level engagements” and discussed rescheduling Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s visit to Russia “at an early and mutually convenient date.”

The statement concluded with Dar inviting Lavrov to visit Pakistan and both sides agreeing to stay in touch.

Previously, the MPD also spoke with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. According to an official statement, Dar “discussed regional developments, ceasefire and ongoing diplomatic efforts by Pakistan.”

“He underlined the importance of sustained dialogue and commitment to address outstanding issues to promote regional peace and stability at the earliest,” while Araghchi “appreciated Pakistan’s consistent and constructive facilitation role in this regard,” the statement added.

The calls come as state media said Araghchi is expected to arrive in Islamabad on Friday night with a small team to take part in a second round of talks with the United States. Meanwhile, the US logistics and security team is already in Islamabad for talks, he added.

The new talks were expected to take place on Tuesday but never took place as Iran said it was not yet ready to commit to attending and a US delegation led by Vice President JD Vance never left Washington.
