Seven dead, 18 injured in Lakki Marwat blast in KP


Police say the bodies of the dead and injured are being taken to the hospital and an emergency is imposed at Sarai Naurang Hospital.

At least seven people were killed and more than 18 injured in an explosion in Sarai Naurang area of ​​Lakki Marwat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Tuesday, hospital sources said.

According to police, the explosion occurred near Naurang railway crossing.

Initially, hospital administration officials confirmed five deaths and more than 10 injuries, while later updates from hospital sources said the death toll had risen to seven.

Hospital sources said two traffic police officers were among those killed in the explosion, while a woman and children were among the injured.

Police said the bodies of the dead and injured were being taken to hospital, while emergency measures had been imposed at Sarai Naurang Hospital.

KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi took notice of the explosion and sought a report on the incident from the Inspector General of Police.

“The martyrdom of two traffic police officers and five civilians in the incident is deeply tragic,” he said.

The premier said the provincial government shares the pain of the victims’ families and will provide all possible help. He also directed the authorities to ensure provision of best possible medical facilities to the injured.

KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi condemned the explosion and expressed deep sorrow over the death of innocent people.

In a statement, the governor expressed his solidarity with the families of the victims and said he shared their pain at this difficult time.

He also expressed good wishes for a speedy recovery to those injured in the blast and said the increasing incidents of terrorism across the province, particularly in the southern districts, were deeply alarming.

He called on the provincial government to take serious and practical measures to uphold the rule of law and ensure lasting peace.

The governor said the terrorists involved in bloodshed of innocent people did not deserve leniency and described them as enemies of peace and humanity in the province.

He added that the sacrifices made by the people of the province, police and security forces in the fight against terrorism will not be in vain.
