KARACHI:
A most wanted terrorist affiliated with the banned Sindhudesh Revolutionary Army (SRA) was arrested during an intelligence-based joint operation carried out by the Sindh Rangers and the Anti-Terrorism Department (CTD) on Monday, officials said, adding that weapons and explosive material were recovered from his possession.
The suspect, identified as Abdul Jabbar Sarki, son of Ghulam Rasool, was arrested from the Rangers check post near Raees Goth on Hub River Road while traveling from Quetta to Karachi, an official statement said. Authorities said detonators, ball bearings, weapons and explosive material were seized during the operation.
Officials said the arrested militant was allegedly planning terrorist activities at sensitive locations in Karachi in coordination with other associates. Officials added that he had remained in touch from abroad with SRA commander Sajjad Shah, accused of orchestrating various sabotage activities in Karachi and other parts of Sindh.

According to investigators, Sarki joined Sajjad Shah’s group in 2020 and subsequently became involved in militant activities linked to the banned organisation.
Police officials alleged that the suspect, along with an accomplice, carried out a grenade attack on a Rangers check post near the Manzil pump on the National Highway in June 2020. The attack injured two passers-by and partially damaged the Rangers post.
Authorities further claimed that the militant had also conducted reconnaissance of an Independence Day stall in Gulshan-e-Hadeed ahead of the August 14 celebrations as part of a planned terrorist activity.
Authorities said the suspect’s name is listed in the CTD Red Book as a highly wanted terrorist. The detained militant, along with the recovered weapons and explosive material, has been handed over to the CTD police to continue with the judicial proceedings.
