The Council also discussed the draft Rules regulating the procedure and conduct of the Council’s activities.
ISLAMABAD:
Pakistan’s Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) on Thursday decided to introduce certain amendments to the Code of Conduct of Judges while considering a number of institutional and administrative issues during a meeting held at the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
The meeting was chaired by Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi in his capacity as Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council. In attendance were Chief Justice of the Federal Constitutional Court Justice Amin-ud-Din Khan, Justices of the Supreme Court Justice Munib Akhtar and Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail, Justice of the Federal Constitutional Court Justice Syed Hasan Azhar Rizvi and Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court Justice Aalia Neelum. Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court SM Attique Shah participated as a substitute member.
The Council also discussed the draft Rules regulating the procedure and conduct of the business of the Council. However, the matter was deferred for further deliberations.
In what was described as a demonstration of institutional accountability and transparency, the Council addressed issues involving some of its own members. To this end, the meetings were held with different compositions in accordance with the relevant constitutional provisions.
The reconstituted Council included Supreme Court judges Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Ayesha A. Malik along with Federal Constitutional Court judges Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Ali Baqar Najafi as substitute members.
During the procedure, the Council considered ten matters provided for in Article 209 of the Constitution and resolved all the matters included in the agenda.
