Fuse Games has revealed that Star Wars: Galactic Corridor It has a combination of moving parts that is “in the trillions.”
In an interview with TechRadar Gaming at Summer Game Fest (SGF), Fuse Games co-founder and CEO Matt Webster and creative director Kieran Crimmins shared how the studio designed a star wars Racing game with a narrative that balances what fans already know while contributing to the universe in a meaningful way.
Webster touched on the accessible planets where racing will take place, such as iconic planets like Tatooine and others like Lantaana and Jakku, as well as the game’s “race-based” campaign structure and vehicle customization with over 300 parts.
There are many options that will undoubtedly offer a lot of freedom to the player, but according to Crimmins, the game in general goes beyond that. The creative director said he spoke to one of the game designers at SGF and asked him how many combinations of moving parts there are in the game, and he told him, “It’s in the billions.”
“I can’t really estimate it at the time, because the amount of mechanical depth that we have in both parts, the racing styles, the abilities, the upgrades and then the different environmental effects that there are on the planets, it’s incredible depth.”
“We’ve never had this much depth in a game we’ve played,” he added. “I would say there may not be an arcade racing game with this much depth ever made. This might not be the biggest one possible, and that’s something we really wanted to give back to the genre.”
Going back to how the team balanced the new and the old of star warsCrimmins explained that he wants people who are familiar with the franchise to have those “touchpoints,” but he also saw it from “more of a fantasy fulfillment standpoint.”
“It’s like when we watch movies, watch TV shows or play games,” he said. “What are the vehicle fantasies that are represented in this universe, and there are many, and then how do we get the right word, the right worlds, the right parts, the right vehicles? So that we can offer as many different fantasies as possible.”
One of those new vehicles is the skim speeder, which offers fast mobility and is something Fuse Games knew it needed to take a “knife-edge” turn in racing.
“We made a vehicle that was able to do that and give, which I feel is a very authentic vehicle. star wars experience, but it is a completely new vehicle, so something new for the star wars canon.”
Star Wars: Galactic Corridor launches on October 6 for PS5, Xbox Series X, Series S and PC.
