- RIG has revealed the R8 Specter Pro gaming headset
- There are two models available, one for PlayStation and one for Xbox
- They cost $179.99 (around £130 / AU$250) and have a decent feature set
Gaming accessories brand RIG has revealed a new wireless gaming headset, the R8 Specter Pro. Designed to offer “studio grade” audio, the company claims that the headset has been “specifically designed for competitive gaming” and offers sound “custom-tuned for first-person shooter games” and enhances key in-game audio cues.
There are two models available: the R8 Specter Pro HX and the R8 Specter Pro HS. The HX variant is intended for Xbox, while the HS version is a licensed PlayStation accessory. In addition to their respective consoles, both models work with PC, Nintendo Switch 2 and mobile phones.
Both have 40mm graphene drivers and over 60 hours of battery life. They also come with an RGB-illuminated charging base station and include a cardioid boom microphone with 16-bit/48kHz resolution.

The HX has Dolby Atmos 3D audio support and includes a lifetime subscription to the Dolby Access app, while the HS is tuned for PlayStation’s Tempest 3D Audio on supported platforms.
Although the default sound profile was designed with competitive online gaming in mind, you can modify the sound in the compatible RIG Navigator mobile app.
Like the recently launched RIG R5 Max HD, the R8 Specter Pro can be customized with magnetic earpads and modified earcup plates thanks to the brand’s ‘Snap+Lock’ system.
Overall, they sound like decent packages, especially if the audio quality is good. That said, at the average price of $179.99 (i.e. around £130 / AU$250), they have some pretty stiff competition in some of the best wireless gaming headsets like the SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7 and Logitech Astro A20 X.
